Kids love to imitate. They want to repeat the things that they see their parents do on a routine basis. One of these activities is going to be preparing meals. Kids will be anxious to test their culinary skills! When they are very young it is important that they know to stay away from the stove altogether, but as they get older it is important to address this issue. Be sure that as a parent, you bring it up. The stove will eventually peak a child’s interest, even if you are not aware of it. So breach the topic before your child decides to start experimenting on their own. Cooking with your children can create special memories that can last a life time and also serve as a wonderful opportunity to start getting them in the habit of some actions that will keep them safe in the kitchen. One of the primary things to be aware of is what burners are in use and the pots that are sitting on top of those items. Injury most frequently occurs in the kitchen by leaning into or leaning over a hot pot. Also get them in the habit of turning all handles of hot pots to the inside of the oven area. This prevents the accidental spilling of hot foods and liquids or shifting the kitchen utensil to contact unprotected skin. Electrical dangers are also present in the kitchen area. Keep an eye out for cords that have become frayed over time and do not overload outlets with multiple utensils at a time. The proximity of utensils to water and the sink is also of particular concern when preventing electric shock. Maintaining a clean kitchen area can also prevent serious injury. Common accidents in the kitchen are due to spilled liquids such as water and grease. It can be handy to keep cleaning materials nearby for just this very purpose. Follow some of these very simple precautions and you and your children can look forward to years of heartwarming culinary creations.
